There are over 200 comic book companies and well over 200 Fanzine publishers. Why in the fuck do you people keep on buying Marvel and DC comics is beyond me. Most of their titles features characters that date back to the early sixties! A lot of their main characters date back to the thirties! The X-Men were first published back in 1963. The first Superman comic was published in 1938!
They're stale and the stories are weak. The art work is assembly line bad. Most of the mainstream product contains grade school dialog and splash pages that take up space. A lot of titles now will go through whole issues without any action. How many times can the world be saved and heroes get killed and resurrected? Aren't you tired of buying several titles in order to complete one story line? Aren't you tired of paying two and three dollars for fancy covers filled with poor stories and mediocre art? After thirty years of flying and knocking down buildings, it's time for a change.
The talent of the artist and writers that manage to get creative jobs at Marvel and DC comics is second-rate at best. The editors have no idea of what they're doing. These publishers are no longer capable of publishing so many titles once a month. I would suggest to them that they cut way back on the number of titles that they produce and only print them bi-monthly. This way their limited talents will not be taxed so badly. Marvel could do without about 50% of their titles. DC could cut about 60%. I would also suggest that they change their formats to graphic novels and not raise their prices. There is no way in hell that comic books in their current format are worth $2.00 and $3.00 a piece.
The way that they could afford to do this would be to get rid of all of the dead weight that is in their companies. Like most big corporations, I am sure that Marvel and DC have a lot of middle management and editorial personnel that contribute nothing to the creative process or the actual publishing of comic books.
Check out some the independent publishers and Fanzines. Tell your comic book retailer to start stocking something fresh and cut back on the corporate bullshit.
